Mahela wants more of a team effort

Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene called on the rest of his batsmen to join the party after Upul Tharanga's latest century helped brush aside Zimbabwe.

Tharanga scored 110 as the Sri Lankans virtually booked their spot in the group stages of the Champions Trophy thanks to a 144-run win.

And while Jayawardene was happy with the contributions of Tharanga, Kumar Sangakkara and Marvan Atapattu, he still wants more from his top order.

He said: "Upul batted brilliantly. And so did Kumar and Marvan who has come back strongly.

"Now, other guys also have to get into the scene. In the last 10 games our batsmen have scored 11 hundreds and four of them have come from Upul's blade. He batted brilliantly.

"I am a bit concerned at conceding a large number of runs through no balls and extras."

Zimbabwe, who were crushed by the West Indies in their opening game, are out of the competition but vice-captain Stuart Matsikenyeri took positives from the loss and is hoping they can round off their campaign with a victory against Bangladesh on Friday.

"We came out here looking to play positive cricket, which we did in bits, but not enough," he told BBC Sport.

"The first half of the game was brilliant, we carried our plans through the way we wanted to, but we lost too many wickets at the wrong times.

"We have to tighten up for the next game. Bangladesh are the same sort of side as us and we're confident we can go home with a victory."
