MPs debate on motion to extend emergency

The motion to extend the state of emergency by a month
is being debated in parliament today.
Presenting the motion in parliament Prime Minister
Rathnasiri Wickremanayake said all patriotic forces
should be united to defeat the terrorism in this
juncture.
Already several such forces have assembled with the
government in this task and so achieved some
victories.
The dawn of the democratic has now reached in the
eastern province. The people in the east are now ready
to defeat the terrorism by their franchise.
He also said the security forces are dedicating to
provide the democracy rights to the people in the
north as well. All should have a responsible to offer
their support to the government to defeat the
terrorism.
The security forces were able to repulse some
attempts of the LTTE with the information of the
general public. 120 police and army personnel were
killed due to the terrorist activities during the
March and April and 945 injured.
Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said a
parliamentarian committee will be appointed to inquire
the oil excavation activities as soon as the political
submit their candidates for the committee. He made
this state when raised a question by parliamentarian
Wimal Weerawansa. He requested the government to
appoint the committee soon.
