Prince Andrew meets new Maldivian President

The Duke of York Prince Andrew who is on a private visit to the Maldives met with the country’s new President Mohammed Nasheed today, the British High Commission in Colombo said.

Prime Andrew congratulated President Nasheed on his recent victory in the country’s first multiparty presidential elections while the Maldivian President thanked the UK for its ongoing support with democratic reforms and transition.

“The meeting underpins the UKs ongoing commitment to support Maldives through the democratic transition process and beyond,” the UK High Commission said in news release.
