Thousands Defy Tigers;

Over 100000 Tamil civilians defying tiger orders enjoyed themselves in the carnival held at Doreiappah grounds, Jaffna. The LTTE ordered the people not to attend the fiesta through their media.

The carnival was held not only to provide fun and frolic to civilians but also to meet their requirements.

The objective of the carnival titled of 'Reawakening Jaffna' was held for three days.

People availed themselves of cheap essential commodities at trade stalls.

The entertainment meant for children and javelins included merry - go - round, electronic games etc. and provided opportunities for sports for youth. A popular item of the carnival was the musical show featuring popular artistes from the North and the South. Twenty one school children who passed the G.C.E. Ordinary Level with highest scores were awarded computers.

This event was organized by the 51 Division and the Jaffna Traders Association. Jaffna Commander Major General G.A. Chandrasiri, Major General LBR Mark, Commander 51 Division K. Ganesh Government Agent Jaffna P.S.B. Jaysundara DIG Northern Province also participated.
